    Updating Umbraco without deleting back office content

    I'm trying to update our site from Umbraco from 7.12.1 to v7.15.5, but when I try and update the website it instead does a fresh installation and deletes everything in the backoffice.

    I've read the documentation here

    could anyone point me in the right direction ?

    Hi Darren

    Can you describe how do you upgrade? Do you overwrite web.config file during the update ? - you shouldn't do it, be sure that web.config isn't rewritten during the update

    Ok so for anyone else reading this the issue wasn't that erasing my database it was that it couldn't find the connection string to the database and instead made a new database on my local machine instead
