I am trying to setup nested content.
After adding the data type 'nested content', I click 'add element type' and there's a modal with 'select element type, type to filter'.
Nothing I enter in here persists after closing.
How does 'actor' and 'actress' become valid in this example? https://our.umbraco.com/documentation/getting-started/backoffice/property-editors/built-in-property-editors/Nested-Content/
Are you saying you can't add Actor and actress to the data type?
You need to check you've made these document types Element types - go to the permissions tab on the Actor and Actress doc type and ensure you've checked "Is an Element type"
