New to V8 and feeling a little overwhealmed

    Hi,

I have used Umbraco in the past for a very small Marketing site but this was a long, long time ago and I was using version 6. Umbraco 8 looks very different to what I'm used to and I'm feeling a little overwhealmed.

Can anyone recommend any good articles or videos to get me started?

    Thanks

    Ben

    Hi Ben

Checkout Paul Seal youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmAYWmH9BhE

Did you read official docs - https://our.umbraco.com/documentation/?

    Thanks,

    Alex

This is great - thanks for the recommendation.

On the previous project we hosted on premises, but now I see there's the option of Umbraco cloud. Have you used Umbraco cloud before and do you recommend it as a good option I should investigate?

    Thanks

    Ben

The fundamentals of Umbraco haven't changed since v6 - you still have document types, templates etc.

Apart from what Alex mentioned, there's some Umbraco TV episodes that take you through what is new:

    https://umbraco.tv/videos/umbraco-v8/whats-new-in-umbraco-8/

There's also a few starter kits, including one by Paul that will get you started:

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks Dan, I'll check out the Umbraco.tv videos as well

It's good to know that fundamentally it's the same - just a shiny new exterior :)

Starter kits look like a good option for us in these early days, there's also a few junior devs on the team I need to support and these would be good to get them up and running quickly to help them learn.

    Thanks again

    Ben

I would also really recommend checking Paul Seals youtube channel. He has got an entire series with videos of how to build an umbraco site that is really easy to follow with a lots of best practices and that covers all you need to build a normal site.

The umbraco docs covers some more stuff and together that should get you quickly started, even for junior devs.

Thank you all for recommending my videos and starter kit. I've not been on the forum for a while and seeing this today has cheered me up. Have a nice day. Good luck Ben, feel free to ask questions in the comments of my videos and if you haven't had a response in time or need further help come back and ask on here.
