Multilingual site - different content for each market?
We are setting up a multilingual and have different content for each market. In order to have correct translations we want to edit the English source content before sending to translation. How can we do this? So far we have only been able to send the English Master site to translation which does not contain correct content for all markets. Can anyone help?
This probably depends quite a bit on how your site is setup, and how much difference there is between content in each of your languages.
but if the content between markets is different enough then I am guessing you have your setup such that you have a home node for each site ?
e.g ?
Site Root
Home (English)
Home (French)
Home (German)
If the french and German sites have only some different content, then you might have separate pages underneath those sites just for their content.
e.g:
Site Root
Home (English)
Home (French)
A French only page
Home (German)
A German only page
With this setup you could still have these 'language' only pages in your main English site, but not publish them, and use them as the basis for the translation.
e.g :
Site Root
Home (English)
A French only page (not published)
Home (French)
A French only page
(you could also get clever here and have the french pages in a sub section of the english site, they don't have to map directly onto each other - but for simplicity that's what i've written above.)
then you may need to wok out how much (if any) shared content you have, or if you have different site types.
So I have seen setups where people have multiple site types,
for example you may have a full site (that has all products/marketing/eveything) for some languages, and a 'brochure' site (just some of the products/info/contact) for other languages
In that case you it may make sense to have two English master sites.
Site Root
Main Site (English)
Basic Site (English)
German Site (takes content from Main Site)
French Site (takes content from basic site)
and then from this , some languages might be translated from the Main site and others from the Basic site.
If the content is truly different for each language, then you will probably want to setup each individual site as a multilingual site containing English and the target language. (using Vary by culture inside Umbraco to have multiple content on the same page)

Germain (English & German Translations)
This is the extreme as there will be little if no opportunity to share content if you do it this way, you will effectively have individual sites for each language,
once you have the structure you want - it should be easier to separate out into the translations you need for each language.
