Hmmm... Maybe I should alter my question to ask if anyone has actually attempted this before. Has anyone? Or has the thought even crossed anyone's mind? Or is there perhaps a better way to be able to use both the local filesystem and the cloud?
Late to the party here but I found this thread whilst looking for a similar thing. I'm considering building a custom provider to enable media selection from multiple sources - for example two different Azure blob containers (in different accounts), or one in Azure and another in S3. It's unlikely that this will get the go-ahead though and it doesn't seem like there's enough demand to justify me doing this for fun!

Does anyone know if it is possible to utilize both a local file server, Azure Blob storage, AND amazon S3 cloud storage in umbraco at the same time?
I can kind of see where it might be possible, but I do not see any documentation that would indicate that it ISN'T supported...
