Is there a way to disable the dropzone area in the Media library without touching Umbraco core files?

I want to force editors to click "Create" from the dropdown in the Media library so that I can validate that all mandatory fields (in the form) have input data before saving an image. The dropzone bypasses any mandatory fields..
