Can you use an independent Azure blob with Umbraco Cloud for media storage, and if you can what issues can that cause?

Can you use an independent Azure blob with Umbraco Cloud for media storage, and if you can what issues can that cause? Will we still be able to use all the features like the image cropper for example.

We already have a blob set up for media storage, but are migrating to Cloud. Cloud's default media storage also has the storage limits, that we can not worry about as much by using our larger existing blob.

Can we connect both if not? What are our options? We would really like to keep using our existing blob that we've invested in already.

    Hi there.

    That is a possibility, yes.

I've personally migrated several projects from using their own blob to using our blob storage instead, as it can save on expenses :)

Those were only v7 and v8 projects, although I can't see why this shouldn't be possible on v9 or higher.

As for connecting to both, I'm not sure it wouldn't cause issues like e.g. media transfers between environments, etc. + it's not something I've seen on any project before.

You're more than welcome to reach out to our support via the Cloud portal should you have any further questions :)

The answer was a "NO", you cannot connect an independent blob storage to Umbraco Cloud (from Umbraco Cloud chat):

"Hey again Joshua, I've been discussing this internally and there were few suggestions which I sent you, though I deleted it as I got an update from the team saying that things will go horribly wrong if you disable our Blob Storage. So unfortunatly that won't be an option, now when Umbraco Cloud has it's own Media Blob Storage you can not hook it up with your own storage provider. Best ,Georgs "
