Creating order tracking with no webshop ?

    Hi

I will right off the bat admit that I am a newbie in Umbraco... :)
I work in marketing and our website - which was build before my time at the company - was build by a bureau on specs. I don't know how to code - but I have an idea to improve our customer experience, and now I just need to know if it is possible. (And maybe how I might be able to make it happen).

Idea: Create the option for customers to login to a site and see an overview of what state their order is in. Like a track and trace. Ideally every time a new action in relation to the order happens, an email is generated, eg. telling the customer that their order is now in production.

Problem: We do not sell via our website. We are a manufacturing company within the building industry and orders are active over very long periods (from months to years). So we have no webshop. Our order numbers are generated manually, excel is the main tool used to keep track of orders/projects - and several departments are involved in each order/project before it is finalized and shipped off. Ideally all the different departments would be able to submit updates to each order (so I don't end up having to do them all).

Is this at all possible? Or am I way off?

Hope you can help me. :)
