Images breaking in back office and on website

We have been experiencing random images breaking in the back office (v8) and on our website. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why. We are using Azure as the server for all these images.

We upgraded from 7 to 8 back in October, and since then, these instances started occurring. We ran a db refresh recently, but that only fixed the problem for a short time. Images are again breaking randomly.

We recently determined that a couple of our load balancers in other regions were not matching. Fixing that mismatch seemed to fix the overall problem. However, there are still a few images that refuse to show up, in the back office and on the site.

We have hundreds of pages and some images appear on dozens of pages in numerous regions, and replacing each image on each page in each region is NOT an option. We upload web optimized jpgs and svgs on a regular basis.

The optimization occurs using PS from higher res images in our brand catalog. Those images are then uploaded to the library, either in bulk or individually.

This has become an ongoing problem, particularly in v8. We are considering upgrading to a more recent version. We are using NET and would have to update our dbs to NET CORE. Would upgrading v8 solve much of these image breakage problems? Have many of these bugs been resolved in recent updates?
