    Umbraco LTS vs STS

What's everyones take on LTS vs STS as set out in https://umbraco.com/products/knowledge-center/long-term-support-and-end-of-life/?

On https://our.umbraco.com/download/, Umbraco 13 (the current LTS) is "recommended for most users". Does this mean it will remain the recommendation until the next LTS which is earmarked as Umbraco 17 in November 2025? (and given that the page also mentions Umbraco 13 is already in the "support phase" window since May 30, 2024). Does that mean theres going to be approx 18 months of no new features in the recommended version?

Is there already a good thread/discussion I can be pointed in the direction of 🙂

    thanks

Nick chapas did a video along these lines recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yrVDJOE7sQ

My general sentiments too i think - in retrospect there probably shouldn't have been both LTS and STS release cycles for .net, rather just the same support period for every release. Then products that try to follow the .net cadence, like Umbraco, would have the same/similar support cycle too.

Umbraco 13 is "recommend for most users" but according to https://umbraco.com/products/knowledge-center/long-term-support-and-end-of-life/ is already well into the support phase (meaning no new features)

should the recommended version be 15 now?

I agree that the LTS and STS cycles can feel a bit complex for users trying to stay updated. Do you think switching to Umbraco 15 as the recommended version would be better for users who want newer features, or is sticking with 13 for stability the right choice until 17?

Umbraco 13 is the current “safe” choice. However, if your projects need newer functionalities, Umbraco 15 could be a better pick—just be prepared for the shorter support cycle and more frequent upgrade path.
