You don't have permission to access / on this server.

    Hi,

I've recently made my website on a local host, and using a Microsoft Azure SQL database.

However, yesterday I tried publishing my project via FTP, all of the files are on the server when I log in using WinSCP but when I attempt to load the page I get the following message:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Please view here to see what I mean: www.deploy.techradiance.co.uk

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hi TechRadiance and welcome to the Umbraco developer forum :)

Are you on a shared hosting environment? If so perhaps you should get in touch with the webhost and ask them to setup the proper permissions in their end - What is the host you're using?

If it's a dedicated server you control yourself then make sure to setup permissions for the IUSR and network service accounts.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    /Jan

Assuming you have IIS access, this video shows how I typically setup permissions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK8YM3JBgwM

    Hi Both,

    Thank you for your replies,

I don't really know a great deal about website deployment, it's all new to me,

I signed up for a web hosting package with 1and1 hosting back in January as I have been temp using a wordpress site while in the making of this. (It's just the basic package on https://www.1and1.co.uk/hosting)

By what I gather from both of your replies, I won't be able to host my umbraco site on this?

Much appreciated for your help, Alex

Well it seems they do offer hosting on Windows so perhaps you should be able to have Umbraco working even though at first sight I was not able to see them advertise that they support Umbraco - but that does not necessarily mean they don't.

I think the easiest way to figure out without wasting too much time trying out a lot of things (which, since you're new to Umbraco and deploying Umbraco sites) is to get in touch with the hosting provider and ask them if they support Umbraco - you can use this piece for reference in regards to what is required on the server for Umbraco to work https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/Getting-Started/Setup/Requirements/

    Hope this helps :)

If you find out that they're not supporting Umbraco then perhaps it's worth considering Unoeuro for the job - I use them for some minor sites of mine and whenever I have had an issue they have been quick to respond and resolve them - You can learn more about them here https://en.unoeuro.com/

And please let us know how it all turns out :)

    Hi Jan,

    Thank you for that suggestion,

I will check that provider out, I'm ideally looking for a reasonably cheap package as I'm only getting around 700 viewers per month,

I got in contact with my current providers, but still waiting for a reply back off them, the customer service is terrible.

Will let you know if I manage to get it resolved, thanks again :)

    Hi again Jan,

Sorry to have to trouble you,

My current providers got back to me and said I would need a dedicated server to host umbraco on there service, which would be too expensive.

I'm therefore wondering if I was to go with the provider you suggested, would the silver package on here:

    https://en.unoeuro.com/products.php

    Be capable of running Umbraco?

Thanks again for all your help, Alex

Yes, all of the webhotels provided by Unoeuro can handle running Umbraco. Just make sure to order a windows server when doing the order then it should be no problem :)

But be aware that if you need to use MSSQL that going to cost you a bit extra and it's not included in the package by default and is going to cost you 1€ extra pr. month.

Thanks Jan, I am going to transfer my domain over to them, and yeah that's fine, I've got a Azure database currently so I'll probably just stick with this for the simplicity of it,

Your help has been much appreciated,

    Alex

    Hi Alex

Happy to hear that I was able to help you get things sorted :) - Aaaah, I have not had that much experience with Azure yet so keep forgetting that this of course also is an option these days :)

    Happy umbracoing!

    /Jan
