Hi!
Need to find a solution for not being able to use search for words with Å Ä Ö (in the Swedish alphabet). I am using Umbraco v6.1.5 (Assembly version: 1.0.4993.19246). I have tried in both Chrome and Explorer. I can wright and link with Å Ä Ö, but I cannot create related articles or folders under another folder if the name contains Å Ä Ö. Otherwise it is working fine.
(we have the same problem in Denmark and Norway with the search function) Many thanks in advance //Camilla Infocare Sweden
Hi Camilla and welcome to the Umbraco developer forum also known as "Our" in daily speech :)
I'm a bit confused about what kind of search you're writing about? Is it a search function on a website or is it the search function in the Umbraco backoffice?
Can you perhaps show a screendump, which illustrates the issue? It might be easier to understand your issue? :)
Hi Jan, thank you for your response.
It is both in Umbraco and then on the webpage.
The system “changes” for example Ö to OE (Å will be AA and so on).
This results in that we can´t search for Göteborgs Stad in Umbraco and on the webpage.
The same problem is with Denmarks and Norways pages.
Best Regards //Camilla
The reason for the replacement of the umlaut and special nordic characters is because it's usually not a good idea to have these characters be a part of a url since it can cause problems. Therefore there are some urlreplacing rules setup in the /config/UmbracoSettings.config file - You can of course modify these rules yourself but I won't advice it - It's only in URL's the characters are being replaced and the search engines for the backoffice and your client side search are probably not looking at the url in order to provide you with proper search results.
The search form you have on the website...what is it based on? Is it using XSLTSearch or something custom build on top of Examine or Lucene?
The backoffice search is using Examine...but unfortunately I'm not that well-versed with Examine etc. so I'm not sure what needs to be done to have a search for "Göteborg" return a list of pages where this term is present - All I can remember is that in versions before 7 it did not always work that well out of the box.
For instance I have a site running on Umbraco 7.3 where we have many pages containing words like "Dør", "Mål" etc. - And when I search for "Dør" in the backoffice I get a nice list of documents and media containing the word "Dør". And the rewrite rule to change "ø" to "oo" in a url is the same in this version.
So don't confuse the Url Replcaing as being the problem - I think it is something else.
