How to structure the content to achieve friendly url with a category?
e.g. /test/test2/
When I create a page "test" in content and then as a child I create "test2" the url for "test2" is still "/test2/" instead of "/test/test2/". Is there any settings I need to change or what's the way to achieve this "test/test2/" category structure?
It´s because that the test page are in the root of you site. If you for example, are moving the test and test 2 page under the Home page then you should see a structure like where the URL is:
Thanks Dennis but I want a folder in the Content not in the Document Types like Dennis explained "You can create a Document Type Folder that has no Template, and use that only as a folder for your pages." I can create a folder in Document Types but not in Content. I'm probably doing something wrong.
Yes, create a Document Type called Folder. Then you have to make sure that the Document Type of Home, allows Folder as children, under Permissions for doctypes. Makes sense?
Makes sense however, I can create document type folder but then there is nothing I can do with it and I cannot allow it as Children under home because I cannot see it on the list of possible child nodes in permissions.
I made it work by nesting content pages like test/test2 where "test" is a page and "test2" is a page. I didn't manage to make it work where "test" would be a folder in Content not a page.
Category in the friendly url
Hi,
How to structure the content to achieve friendly url with a category?

Hi PJ.
That sounds like something is broke.
Could you please show a screendunmp of your node structure?
What version of Umbraco are you running?
Hi Dennis,
I run Umbraco version 7.4.3 assembly: 1.0.5948.18141
Thanks, PJ
Hi PJ,
It´s because that the test page are in the root of you site. If you for example, are moving the test and test 2 page under the Home page then you should see a structure like where the URL is:
/test/test2
Hope this explains why.
/Dennis
Ah, the root node gets "/" as its url, therefore its child gets /test2. Try moving the node Test (including its child) under the Home node,
That works well. Many thanks for your help Dennis and Dennis.
Is it possible to have "test" as a folder or something so it is not a page but it is only a category in the url?
Thanks, PJ
No problem, happy to help.
Off course. You can create a Document Type Folder that has no Template, and use that only as a folder for your pages.
Best of luck to you!!!
Haha, inception that you got two almost exact responses from two Dennis at almost the exact moment. :)
A little bit weird Dennis, yes ;)
I can create a folder in document types but can't seem to be able to create document type Folder that I can then use in my content I assume?
Maybe you can explain it a little bit more how would that work?
Thanks, PJ
Hi PJ,
Oh did not see that you already have answer this in a previous post.
When you create a new document type then you should also have the possibility to create a folder, see the screenshot below.

Hi PJ,
Oh I misunderstood this. Follow what Dennis says and you should be good.

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your reply.

Hi PJ.
Look at this gif. Easier to explain with a video:
Hope this helps you!

HI PJ.
Did it work out for you? Did the video i posted make sense or should i add a step by step approach for you? Let me know if / how i can help.
/ Dennis
Hi Dennis,
I made it work by nesting content pages like test/test2 where "test" is a page and "test2" is a page. I didn't manage to make it work where "test" would be a folder in Content not a page.
Many thanks for your help.
PJ
