4 years ago a webagency created a wonderful webshop for me, but a few months ago I have set a new domain name on this website. Here is the result : http://www.belgianbeerglassware.com/ But now I have almost zero webvisitors and even fewer orders ;) Apparently this is due to the new domain name and the fact that the Umbraco license is no longer valid. I tried to contact the support, but without any response. Can someone please help me on this issue or give me an active umbraco customer service?
Thank you for raising this thread. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this and sadly it has nothing to do with any Umbraco license, because then it would had been much easier to help you. Umbraco CMS is open source and therefore completely free to use without any licenses. What you are experiencing is related to what we call 301 redirects. Basically it is when you decided to change the domain of the website and forgot to tell Google (or other search engines) the new domain name. So every time that Google points a search to olddomain.com it returns with no result and that makes Google index your site with less relevance. That will of course give less visitors and therefore fewer orders.
What should always be done when renaming websites is 301 redirects. This makes sure that Google knows and therefore redirect olddomain.com/product to newdomain.com/product. This will keep the relevance in the search results. There is tons of articles when you Google 301 redirects and what can be done. This is one of them: http://elevated.com/the-ultimate-301-redirect-seo-guide/ that gives a great explaining.
I also hope that this gave you a good idea and understanding of the reason why you have lost visitors. I can tell you that you are not the only one who has experienced this. It is a common mistake. That of course doesn't make it less painful.
First of all thank you so very much for your kind reply. That is really much appreciated.
Indeed apparently the issue is with uWebshop, an open source e-commerce plugin. And therefore indeed not with Umbraco itself. Do you perhaps have a solution for this? Because uWebshop no longer exists? At least that is what I read.
