    Write.lock file

    Hi there,

We've recently migrated our Umbraco site to a Windows 2012 server (was previously on 2008 R2). All was fine for the first week or so, for the past few days we've started to receive write.lock file errors every hour or so. I can rebuild the indexes, stop/restart the app pool, but the error always returns. Using Umbraco 7.4.2. Any ideas?

    Thanks Ben

    Some further info:

    You managed to solve this?

I got the same error over and over again. Also Windows 2012 (not R2):

2016-11-25 15:11:38,071 [107] ERROR UmbracoExamine.DataServices.UmbracoLogService - Provider=ExternalIndexer, NodeId=-1 System.Exception: App is shutting down so index batch operation is ignored,, IndexSet: ExternalIndexSet 2016-11-25 15:11:39,790 [107] WARN Umbraco.Web.PublishedCache.XmlPublishedCache.XmlCacheFilePersister - Cannot write now because we are going down, changes may be lost. 2016-11-25 15:11:40,305 [107] ERROR UmbracoExamine.DataServices.UmbracoLogService - Provider=InternalIndexer, NodeId=-1 System.Exception: App is shutting down so index batch operation is ignored,, IndexSet: InternalIndexSet 2016-11-25 15:11:40,305 [107] ERROR UmbracoExamine.DataServices.UmbracoLogService - Provider=ExternalIndexer, NodeId=-1 System.Exception: App is shutting down so index batch operation is ignored,, IndexSet: ExternalIndexSet 2016-11-25 15:11:41,712 [107] WARN Umbraco.Web.PublishedCache.XmlPublishedCache.XmlCacheFilePersister - Cannot write now because we are going down, changes may be lost.

Can someone of the umbraco team please look into this?

Hello Remko. Yes, I found a resolution to this on stackoverflow (thanks to the user "Eyescream") You need to install a hotfix from Microsoft https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3052480. I installed this 2 weeks ago and the problem has been resolved.

    As posted on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/40522853/umbraco-7-write-lock-file:

Your problem might be related to this issue: http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-6338

If you have Windows Server 2012 R2 + IIS and either KB3000850 or KB3007507 installed, YOU ARE AFFECTED Microsoft have created a hotfix: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3052480

Problem is, the server we are using is Windows 2012, NOT R2, so this update isn't for this Windows version. And there doesn't seem to be a fix for 2012.

This probably won't be an option for you.... but just in case...

I used to run our site on Windows 2008 R2 and the issue wasn't occurring. We moved it to the new server (2012 R2) and only then did the issue start occurring (and was then resolved by applying the fix)

So, can you move it to a Windows 2012 R2, or 2008 R2, if you have them?
