Laptop to run WebMatrix and Umbraco

    Hi

I am looking at purchasing a relatively inexpensive laptop to run WebMatrix and Umbraco. I saw the following one at the store this morning but the sales guy thought I might be better with an Intel I5 processor for this task? I'd rather go relatively cheap, but wondered if someone experienced could advise me here?

    Thanks

I just had a quick look at the specs. Now clearly it isn't a powerful machine but it should just about be able to run what you want.

If you are looking to get into development then there really are two key components to look out for processor and ram. With ram been the most important.

If you can afford the budget stretch something like

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-x541ua-15-6-laptop-silver-10146347-pdt.html (£379.99 as I write this)

Would give you both 8gb of ram and the i5.

Personally I suspect that if you do get into development that you will want to upgrade from WebMatrix to full Visual Studio which really does require a bit more ram and processor power.

In your place, I would buy a Thinkpad T430s from eBay. Great machines, well built. I saw this for ~230 GBP

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T430s-14-Dual-Core-i5-3320M-2-6GHz-8GB-RAM-128GB-SSD-DVD-RW-/252639198546?hash=item3ad2783d52:g:BdwAAOSwaB5XwhXT

Note - I have no connection to the seller, this is just the first search result

MUCH faster than the one you looked at, though the SSD is on the small side. You can upgrade that yourself.

Of course, this is secondhand, and you may prefer a new one with warranty - but do take a look on ebay if you're comfortable with a used machine.
