Hi there,
I'm new to Umbraco but not C# / MVC.
Are there any tutorials on creating your own master layouts? (i.e. not starting with fanoe and using own design)
I'm capable of hacking around with stuff to change it but would prefer a best practice guide from a sensible and experienced person :)
Many thanks
Hi Michael,
This tutorial will give you a good overview of how Umbraco works and how to take a template /flat HTML site and Umbraco-ify it.
https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/tutorials/creating-basic-site/
Then I'd move onto Surface Controllers and Route Hi-jacking and with your .Net and C# skills you should have most of what you need to get cracking.
Good luck!
Steve
A good shortcut for these is to take the Umbraco.Tv tutorials.

Thanks Steve,
One last thing - is it easy to remove the fanoe starter kit once installed or should I just start again with a new project?
Hi,
You can, just delete the content, then the templates then the doc types, then the css and js but it's far easier just to start again.
Might be worth just creating a separate instance just to go through the tutorial too.
Hi I've started a tutorial series for how to do this. I show you how to take a free Bootstrap template and put it into Umbraco.
You can watch it free on YouTube.
Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWy2HlRDCRM
Part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WzNPlKks-0
I will be doing Part 3 at dinner time today
Take a look and let me know if it helps you.
Cheers
Paul
Thanks Paul,
I've already found some of your vids, this is EXACTLY what I'm after :D
Awesome.
Great news
I'm glad I can help.
