What would be your top 5 Plugins for an Umbraco Website?

What 5 plugins do you think are essential for any Umbraco website and Why?

    Essential?

None! ... that's the beauty of Umbraco.

Of course plugins can be essential but that really depends on what you want to accomplish. Each website may need completely other plugins.

For the most popular projects, have a look at: https://our.umbraco.org/projects/?orderBy=popularity

Nearly every project I build would use:

    nuPickers - https://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/nupickers/

Gives a lot of useful "picker" style editors.

    uEditorNotes - https://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/ueditornotes/

Very useful for providing editors with additional info in back-office

Umbraco Core Property Value Converters - https://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/umbraco-core-property-value-converters

Makes it much nicer to query properties.

And cough my own Trace Log viewer is something I use a lot - https://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/diplo-trace-log-viewer/

    There are loads more, though!

    Hi Piya

I think the most important plugins are:

    1. Merchello
    2. Archetype
    3. uSync
    4. Vorto
    5. Ditto

Don't ask me why, just first 5 what I remembered, we used them a lot.

    Thanks

    Alex

    In no order

    • Umbraco Core Property Values Convertors
    • Archetype
    • uSync
    • nuPickers
    • AngularGoogleMaps

I don't have a generic top 5, I try to keep my Umbraco solutions as simple as possible - as Micha says above.

Ones I do use regularly, (and to validate Dan's recommendations!)...

    • uEditorNotes - important if you need to give your content-editors any clear instructions (say, if there are complicated doctypes/properties)

    • Umbraco Core Property Value Converters - if you are doing any kind of strongly-typed work with property values.

    Cheers
    - Lee

Definitely Archetype. The rest I tend to do myself.

    I almost always use

    • Umbraco Core Property Value Converters
    • Nested Content
    • Doc Type Grid Editor
    • Diplo Trace Log
    • The Dashboard
    • nuPickers
    • Full Text Search

This has some data you can use to find a general answer: https://twitter.com/MrMarsRed/status/806969661350768640

My top 5 (in no particular order):

    • Formulate. I built it, so it'd be silly if it weren't in my top 5. Also, clients like building their own forms.
    • Archetype. Widgets are awesome.
    • Ditto. Widgets are awesome.
    • Slimsy. Responsive images at exactly the right resolution.
    • uEditorNotes. Nice to give content editors some inline documentation.

FYI, I wrote an article a year ago that is still very relevant. It is essentially a list of essential plugins: http://24days.in/umbraco-cms/2015/umbraco-zeitgeist/

In my opinion, no particular order:

    Nested Content

    The Dashboard

    RJP.MultiUrlPicker

    Personalization Groups

    uCommerce

Love this thread by the way!

Some of my favorites packages for Umbraco:

    • Nested Content - Add repeatable content on your document type using properties from one or more document types

    • nuPickers - Pick nodes like like with Multi-node tree picker (MNTP), but with the option to choose picker type, datasource, use custom labels and automatically create relations.

    • LeBlender - Easy to create new grid editors with properties and the option to render the output in grid.

    • Archetype - Some of the same features as Nested Content to have repeatable content.

    • Link Picker - Add the options to create internal or external links or link to medias. This can of course also be used in combination with some of the other great packages, like in a property defined in LeBlender.

There are many other great packages from the community, some of them already listed here.

I will also like to mention one of my own packages Switcher which is pretty much like a checkbox, but it demonstrates how easy you can create a custom property editor and present it different visually to enhance the editor expirience.

I wouldn't need this in every project but it is very good.

    nuPickers

    Hi guys,

we're always using the following packages:

    1) Nested Content

    2) RJP.MultiUrlPicker

    3) Umbraco Core Property Value Converters

Furthermore we always use our own packages:

    a) Kraken Image Optimizer: A package that sends every uploaded image (in the media-section) to Kraken to optimize it massively before we use it in our sites (and do some more ImageProcessor-magic

    b) PerplexMail: A nice package that gives your editors the possibility to edit all mails that are send in your site; do personalization and see which mails were sent. I have no clue how other sites handles these emails. Are they all hardcoded?

    c) Umbraco Forms on Steroids: Adds some magic to Umbraco Forms.
