Understanding the difference between an Umbraco Package and Project

I'm seeing a lot of cross terms on the forum about Umbraco Packages and Projects. I'm finding both terms being used on various pages (i.e. this one for example). What is the main difference between both terms when it comes to Umbraco 7+ technology.

And if they mean the same thing, why do we need 2 terms?

    Thanks

    Hi Kensley

Projects section at this site https://our.umbraco.org/projects/ is a list of projects which work in combination with Umbraco or have some relation to Umbraco, but it's not 100% package.

Package for Umbraco it's a special type of packing project. You can install any Umbraco package via Packages menu item in the Umbraco in Developers section. So Package it's packed project. Read this article - http://www.markwemekamp.com/blog/umbraco/publishing-your-first-umbraco-package/

    Thanks,

    Alex

So packages are umbraco-based plugins while projects may be more extendable than that?
