Images being rotated when uploaded using media picker
Morning
I am in charge of updating and editing our school website and we are having some minor issues with image uploads.
Some images are appearing in the wrong orientation, despite them appearing correctly in Windows explorer and when opened with image editors.
The only way they upload correctly is to open with an image editor, save the file, then upload to the website. This is a good stop gap measure but going forward it's not ideal. Has anyone come across this issue before and did you find a solution, other than editing each image?
Hi Andy,
I'm afraid I don't have a simple solution for you. It sounds like the image was taken with a device which applied an orientation like a smart device, etc.
That'd mean the correct rotation you're seeing on your device or in Windows Explorer is being supplied by the EXIF data on the file itself.
Out of box there's not anything Umbraco can do to change that. I'd imagine you'd get similar results if you tried opening the file in your web browser too as it may or may not apply the EXIF data when it renders the image.
You could possibly create some server side code which utilises ImageProcessor, the underlying library which handles image manipulation in Umbraco.
If you were looking to some code, I'd suggest looking at these:

But that may be overkill when you can perform a save on your computer.
Thanks,

Hi Jamie
Thanks for your reply. I am having a meeting with our tech support for the website today to see what we can sort out.
I will have to keep manually saving for the time being.
Thanks again
