I am new to Umbraco (The Umbraco sme left so it got passed to me) and last week we lost the umbraco server. It looks like most if not all of the files are the server are corrupted but the database look in its o.k.
I can not login to Umbraco site or view any file.
I was thinking I would install Umbraco ( version 4) on a different machine and point it to the old database. I am not sure if the necessary info in stored in the db ,file system, or combination of both ? Do I have start from the beginning?
But I don't think that it will be sufficient. If you lost all your files it will probably not work. You will mis config settings, templates and related code for that.
Maybe you can contact the person you inherited it from to see if they still have all the files.
And then put them in source control. Bitbuck supports private repositories in the free account. So there is no excuse to not source control your website :-D

Hi Jason,
You can find an archive of old Umbraco versions here : http://code.leekelleher.com/umbraco/archive/
