    Programming Umbraco on a Chromebook

So I've been thinking about buying a chromebook for developing. It's cheaper than most laptops and it's easy to connect via VPN to my main computer and develop from there.

But let's say I'm nowhere near internet and can't access my computer at home, is it possible to develop with Umbraco using the Chromebook alone?

Do any of you guys have any experience developing Umbraco on a Chromebook?

    Best regards,

    Mike

    Hi MBE,

aren't the Chromebooks based of on Chrome OS?

Don't think you can host Umbraco there as you can't install iis on it or? Also something like .NET or Visual Studio.

If you are just working in the browser within a hosted Umbraco then that could work.

Maybe I'm not up-to-date with the OS. At least you depent on .NET and without it you can't work with Umbraco.

    Hi David,

Some people install Linux on the Chromebook and run their tools from there.

Problem is I'm not experienced in using the chromebook nor the linux OS.

I don't know if there are browser solutions which supports developing in Umbraco like Visual Studio can on Windows or if there are Linux based software which can run Umbraco.

    Regards, Mike

    Hi Mike,

you need the .Net Framework to develop with umbraco. So linux won't do it. You have to stick with a windows machine.

So don't think chromebook will work. :)
