I just installed v7.6.3, and got everything set up with a sample site.
I went into the Admin section to add a new user, and it asks for a Login Name and an Email, and then creates the user.
Only problem is that it never asks for a password, and on the user details page, in order to change the password I have to enter the current password, which seems to have been automatically generated, judging by the data in the database.
This was a terrible experience. I created an Admin user and already knew exactly what I wanted to set the password to. I couldn't change the password because the current password is required (although none existed) and I thought resetting the password's functionality would be to send a password reset to the user. Wasn't able to move forward until I found this post.
Please consider looking at the UX here as I found it to be pretty strange.
I agree this could be better.
I tried completing the password fields to set what I wanted, but only got errors. Then I realized I had to check the "Reset Password' box.
Not a fan of the new User interface. Not intuitive at all, and I have been using Umbraco for 7 years. It's like you guys tried to fix something that was not broken. lol
I can't set a username; forced to use email address as username
Forgot password link on admin login page does not work
Unable to resend invitations, and when you try to reset a password before a user accepts invitation, everything goes wonkey. I ended up having to rename a user account and then create a user
Hmm - yes. The inability to resend an invite is a major shortcoming. I created a user on a site recently where there were issues with email sending to certain domains, so the invite was never received. I've now got a user who can't login (it appears the user's login doesn't work until they use the invite link, even if the password is reset), and no way to resend the invite now the email is sorted...
It should be possible to resend an invite, and also to approve a user even if they haven't used the invite link so that their login works.
How to change password for new Admin users?

How can I reset that?
Admins will need to use the reset password checkbox.
Once that one is enabled and the user is saved, a new random password will be generated and displayed on the screen.
If you still need to change the password after that you can use the randomly generated one as the old password.
I've the same problem. Is't not intuitive.

Good thing we're changing all that in the upcoming 7.7.0 then :-)
Yeah!

HI Mike,
Regarding this: "Forgot password link on admin login page does not work"
Did you setup the smtp for it to send out the emails?
I do not even get a form to reset, and yes email is setup. I got my test invite email.
Yes, email is setup. This si what I see when I hit the forgot password link:
HUm, I barely used this functionality. Any errors on the console?
Nothing in console, nothing in tracelog, just nothing.
