Often when Umbraco releases a minor version the first release can have some issues (that usually only come to light once enough people have used it in anger). So my personal rule is not to use the first minor version release until it's seen to be stable and maybe had a few patch releases.
So I'd use 7.7.9 and then upgrade later once you know 7.8 is stable.
Estimated release for 7.8?
I know it is usually Tuesdays but it did not come out yesterday so are we looking at next or maybe even this week?
Just wondering whether to start a new one with 7.7.9 now or 7.8 later this week.
Hi Marcus,
You could also start from the 7.8 beta and do the upgrade once the final version is released.
Dave
It is easier to update from the beta than 7.9?
I always get problems updating "large" numbers.
I think when you will start on 7.7.9 I think the upgrade will go smoothly.
Of course you will need to follow the instructions closely.
Dave
Obviously but I have had headaches before even with that, when upgrading a full number. There is always something.

Hi Dan,
I understand what you are saying here. But if everybody was doing this no bugs will get reported so no minor release.
I always try to update ASAP and help the CMS get better
Dave
I agree but the development on this will likely take some time and hopefully the minor will be bumped up a few notches before first release :).
7.8 contains a few things that would be nice to have from get go.
Even better if the upgrades could be as smooth as the ones in EpiServer. That is a dream for 8.x maybe?
