I am very confused with reference to the SEO/Meta Description facility on Umbraco.
I have entered an SEO Description via Umbraco, but when the page is searched for on Google, the description isn't what I've entered in the box, but just text that Google has taken from the landing page itself.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone know what's causing it or how it can be resolved?
A couple of questions, as in order to help we will need a bit more information:
How have you added a meta description to your documents?
How are you rendering out the meta description in your views?
It's quite common for you to have a master view file (sometimes called Layout) that will render out common HTML components such as your head section that contains your title tags and meta tags. Do you have access to this?
Thanks for your feedback. Really useful. I've provided this feedback to our technical team and they believe it is a Google issue rather than an Umbraco one. Google is picking up the meta descriptions we have inserted on some pages on our sites, but not others.
We'll investigate where some of the content is being pulled from (as we have an issue of what is being pulled for the search engine snippet is not the meta description or content on the home page (and isn't on ODP).

Hi Richard,

Hi Richard,
this has nothing to do with Umbraco I'm afraid. Google check 3 places in order to show a Meta Description.
You can read more about it in this blog post: https://moz.com/blog/why-wont-google-use-my-meta-description
Hope this helps.
