I'm very confused about the Create menu. When I click on the three little dots next to the Home menu item, I see this:
It says "Create an item under Home" and it lists:
Where does it get these items from? As you can see in the screen shot above, it's a very similar list to the items under Home:
My Page (1),
But they aren't exactly the same. The Create menu doesn't contain About Us. The items under Home don't contain Content Page. So the items in the Create menu can't just be a copy of the items under Home.
Then there's the document Types:
Again it's almost the same but not quite. Blogpost exists under document types but not under the create menu. So the items under the create menu can't just be the document types.
Where do the items under the create menu come from?
Gibran, that come from the permissions in settings application which allow content of the specified types to be created underneath content of this type (i.e home page).
If you click on the Home document type in the Settings area you'll see a "Permissions" link on the top right.
This allows you to choose which document types are allowed under each different document type. For example under "News" you might only want "News Item".
Often, when creating a site, for one-off pages like "Contact Us" I will enable this, create the page and then disable it again so nobody creates an additional one by mistake (and there is less confusing choice for the editors).
I hope that clears it up!
Tarik was too quick for me!
You added more details Steve.
I see. So the items under Create are actually from the document types but only the ones that have been given permissions. Is that correct?
