Our customer is just getting started translating their website which is hosted on Umbraco. They've sent us XLIFF files, which we have translated (German and French) using standard translation software.
When the customer tries to re-upload the translated XLIFF file, they get an error message, for some of the files, but not all.
It just says 'There has been an error' - no other information.
Could anyone guide me to help documentation / best practices around using XLIFF files on Umbraco?
Depending on the version of the xliff (1.2 or 2.0) it will report errors differently but it also sounds like they are using a slightly older version of the package as later versions will give them more error reporting on the issues.
in general standard xliff should be fine, most of the issues we see are because the formatting of the file is messed up at some point before it's copied back to Umbraco.
This post has some of the errors (again with a later version of the package) that will help you and your customer diagnose any issues
Error uploading translated XLIFF files

Thanks so much for your help, Anja
Hi Anja,
your customer has probably used the Translation Manager package to generate the xliff files.

but you can also get them to send the files to [email protected] and we will have a quick look and see if there are any issues we can spot.
