We are a wholesaler and support multiple brands. We use Umbraco as our CMS and at present have it set up so each brand is stand alone and all content is written each time again and again despite the majority of content being shared across brands. How can we change the set up so that we are able to write content once and tag it to show up in multiple brands portals and then only change the content once when it gets updated. thanks! We are on version 7.5.6

    Hi Heather

There are lots of different possible approaches!

It depends on how much of the content is shared and the different types of content, eg if it is 'whole pages' - 'parts of pages' - whole sections of the site or just common panels of content within certain pages.

It sounds like you have a set of Common 'products' that each brand can sell, so probably the approach would be to create a new part of the content tree in Umbraco outside of each brand site, called 'Shared Content' - here you would create your shared products. Each product would have a content picker, allowing you to pick multiple 'brand homepages' to associate the product with the brand. (and perhaps tags for product type etc)

Then in your brand sites you would be able to use the id of the Brand homepage to query the shared content area and pull back products that have been associated with the particular brand.

One place to update product descriptions/images - but able to share that across multiple brands.

Does that sound like the sort of thing you are after?

    regards

    Marc
