We also need a forum, preferably one that offers multiple categories, provides front end registration and login for end users while allowing admins to administer (locking a comment thread, blocking posts, etc.) in the back office. It looks like Dialogue is no longer available and I'm not sure Uintra will work. Have you made any progress with this? If so what solution did you finally go with?

check out my MediaWizards forum package, it should do most of what you need.
I will be updating it over the weekend hopefully, with more functionality, searching, paging and possibly image uploads
