I read from the project page that this isn't a feature, but you would consider adding it in the future if there was enough demand. I for one would like it.
The use case is for basic content pages pre-created for the editor user to update the content only. I don't want the editor user to be able to change the name, and they certainly don't need to see all those technical details like Id, Document Type, Template, etc. I have some simple sites where every page in the site fits this scenario.
It's not a security issue or a deal breaker, it would just be cleaner and less confusing to hide the tab from your basic non-technical user. So if you decide to add the feature, it would be appreciated by me at least.
The ability to hide the properties tab is now available in version 1.4. It also displays a message if ALL of the tabs are hidden to tell the user that there is nothing to edit. Enjoy!
