    Is it possible to assign multiple categories to a content item?

    Yes, you can assign as many categories to a page/content item as you want. There are two data types for selecting categories. Category Selector is a hiararchical view of categories of which you can select as many as you want. Category Picker limits the editor to assigning a single category.
