Well I've already made it optional to store the xml or just the id. In an early beta of this package you could only store the filename, but I discoverd I usually needed the rest of the media aswell (like filename for alt tag) so I decided to store the full media xml. I could make it optional again as a third option, but I won't have time for it soon. I'll release the source code soon so you could have a look at it for yourself if you're interested.
I want to setup a proper codeplex project first before releasing the source code. I'll try and to that this friday. After I released the source code I'll also open the project for collaboration.
Store filename only option

Storing full xml can be overkill on sites with lots of images. Most of the time, you need only filename. What about add this option to settings?
