Is there a process I can follow whereby my umbraco v7 Doc Type Grid Editor settings will port automatically to umbraco 8?
Do I just do a port of umbraco 7 to 8 and then install v8 of the Doc Type Grid Editor or is it more involved than that?

Did you find any solution for this? Is it possible?
No - it didn't work for me...I stopped using it....I used a macro to select the content i wanted in each grid cell..that worked fine for me...and removed a 3rd part dependency.

Yes the content migration from v7 to v8 should work fine with DTGE.
