I just downloaded the package and installed it. I am running Umbraco v5.1RC, the most recent version at this point.
The package seems to install fine with no errors, but it does not appear in the packages list under developer. Nothing happens in content and I don't see any new templates or data types. I am assuming something went wrong.
You may need to log out of the Umbraco installation and log back in. The dashboard is only present in the content section and will appear as a new tab next to the Get Started Tab.
When you install a package in V5 the installed packages are not listed in the tree under the packages folder like they are in V4, but instead can be found in the bottom half of the screen when you install a package.
Let me know how this goes and we can take it from there.
Ok, I see it now. I just missed what it was supposed to do.
Is there any way to present this as a user level page? Something that could be accessed by front end users and doesn't require a person to see the Umbraco admin section.
My primary use for this is to give people who are members of our site the ability to change their passwords and info. These members don't have any rights to log into the back end of the site at all.
Hi Doug, I think you may have misunderstood what this package is intended for. Members and Users are two different things in Umbraco.
Users Users are people who have access to the Umbraco back office, be it content editors, website builders etc...
Members Members are people who sign up to your public website to have access to secure pages on the front end of your website that require authentication.
This package is for Umbraco users. With Umbraco users not every user has access to the Users section in the bottom left hand corner, so that user has no way to update their own password and email address without contacting an admin user of the Umbraco website who will have to change their details for them.
As long as the Umbraco user has access to the content section they will see the dashboard. I hope this makes sense.
In regards to your other question. I think its best to search the forums for membership in the V5 forums and ask your question there.
Ok, thanks for the reply and clarification. This is useful, just not in the way I had hoped. I was truely hoping for a form that a Member could use to adjust their username/password and basic info.
The tool for users is great and I apreciate it, but we only have 3 users, so the value is a bit more limited.
I will look for posts on membership and see if I can find anything.
How hard would this be to modify to focus on Members instead?
don't see anything in Umbraco after install
