What is the main purpose of Nested content and what are some real time examples of using it?

    Hi,

I have seen some posts about the Nested Content package. But I don't fully understand what the main purpose is of this nested content.

Can someone explain me what it is and why or when you can use this?

Isn't it like some sort of composition because it just a container of properties setup in a document type?

    /Michaël

    Hi Michaël,

We did a uHangout video last year when we announced the package, we give some examples on why we developed it and what it can be used for.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_-kWBJkUC8

There is also another video from a talk at this year's CodeGarden, skip to about 12 minutes in to it for Nested Content info.

Ultimately, NC is best used for lists, using doctypes to define those lists.

    I hope this helps?

    Cheers,
    - Lee

    Hi Lee,

I will take a look at these video's.

For me it looks like just a normal listview in the backend of umbraco correct?

    /Michaël

It looks a little similar, but the idea is that Nested Content offers "repeatable inline items", rather than separate child nodes. These inline items don't have a URL or template, etc. only the property data.

Hopefully the videos will make sense of it :-)

    Cheers,
    - Lee
