Customising the RTE in the translator dashboard - is this possible?

When RTE content is shown in the Translator Dashboard there are two simple formatting options available: bold and italic.

We are planning to give editors more options than this in their RTEs (style drop-down, bullet lists etc) so it seems sensible to me that the editor in the Translator dashboard has the same options.

So... is it possible to customise the styling options that are available in the Translator Dashboard RTE? Ideally I guess it would match the options that are available to the source configuration. But if that's not possible then just adding more options to the out-of-the-box RTE would be helpful, otherwise I foresee the translators messing up the formatting and editors having to put it back in.

If none of this is viable I guess we'll need to rethink how we do the content editing (as yes I'm sure ideally the content to be translated would be as free of formatting as possible).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

    HI,

I would say not at the moment. but that's a really good idea and we could add something to the config of the translation provider to let you add extra things to the editor. toolbar.

    leave that one with me.

    Hello,

I've updated the translator dashboard NuGet package to v2.1.6 (this is the version of this package the core is still 2.2.0)

    Install-Package Jumoo.TranslationManager.Translator -Version 2.1.6

The settings for this provider (in settings->translation manager->providers now lets you override the TinyMCE settings used in in the dashboard

    enter image description here

There is even an advanced section where you can just go wild and replace the whole editor config bit for the editor

    enter image description here

You will have to be careful with this mind you can pop the editor with some bad formatting, so some browser debugging will probably be needed when you set the values.

    Hey Kevin

When you said “leave it with me” I thought two weeks, not two hours. Amazing support!

I shall upgrade later this morning and confirm back...

    Thank you

    Hi Kevin

I upgraded to the latest version and I can now indeed configure the RTE toolbar as required! That's awesome, thank you so much.

The Link toolbar option didn't work for me: when clicked it generated an error in the browser console. I don't think this is going to be a problem for me but just thought I would mention it.

    Thanks

    Lotte

    Yeah,

I thought plugins might be an issue.

In theory, the translators don't need to worry about the links in content.

When the Translation Job is approved and pushed back into Umbraco - Translation Manager will update all the internal links to point at the equivalent locations in the target language site - so it would only be an issue if you need to also update external links per language.
