    Misc. questions

    Hello (again)!

I've worked a bit with uMarketingSuite and I've two questions I wasn't able to find the answers for :)

    1. Have you thought about the Google Bot? E.g. will it go to a certain persona? Google Bot should have the "raw" view of the website without custom changes.

    2. Is it possible, as the developer, to force a certain persona or customer journey step without having to retrace the steps to trigger it? It could be interesting to see how the site looks like at the point of do, see e.g. if I've enabled personalization for those steps. Just like with A/B test.

    Hi Camilla,

thanks (again) for your questions :)! Good questions and hopefully these answers will help.

[Edit after I've typed the whole answer: I'm not sure about 1... So let me check that with the rest of the team and come back to you...]

Question 1: We treat bots differently from normal visitors. We classify each visitor and specify whether it's a bot or a visitor. We use a 3rd party package for that called DeviceDetector (https://documentation.umarketingsuite.com/installing-umarketingsuite/dependencies/). It does a really good job, but we also prepared a way to overrule the default classification. The database is totally ready for that, but only the GUI is missing at this moment.

But back to the question: the Google Bot is treated as a single user in the reporting view (that's why you see the number of pageviews that Googlebot has done), but the Googlebot does not accept storing cookies (as most bots don't, or all?). So we cannot save their history or personalize anything in the first place. Everytime the Googlebot

In the second place; as said bots are treated differently from normal visitors and because we know it's a bot we do not anything else (also no A/B testing for example).

Question 2: I don't know whether I'm 100% sure what you mean. What we have is a cockpit view where you can see in the frontend (when you're logged into Umbraco) how the personalization works and in which segments you are at the moment (https://documentation.umarketingsuite.com/personalization/cockpit-insights/). Also from Umbraco you can use the preview to look how a specific page looks for that specific segment.

It's important that it's about a specific "segment" and now for a specific "persona" or "customer journey step". That is because we will only personalize the content based on segments. How you build up that segment is up to you. It could be a specific persona or customer journey step, but it could also be multiple personas or customer journeys, or even combined with explicit parameters (like browser, location or time of day for example).

At this moment we have not a simulation mode where you can walk through the website as a specific segment, but that is on our backlog at the moment. This would give you an option where you can pin a segment and browse through the website.

Is that what you're looking for? Or did you mean something else?

Please let me know, because we love your feedback!

    Kindest regards,

    Jeffrey

    Hi Jeffrey!

    Thank you for your answers.

    1) I'm awaiting more answers about question 1, but for now it sounds promising!

    2) I wasn't aware of how easy it was to preview the segments. I knew about the function for A/B-testing and was looking for a similar way of previewing :) So yes, it was the answer I was looking for !

It does, however, sound really good with the simulation mode! I can't wait to see it in action.

    Kind regards, Camilla

    Hi again,

Have you had the chance to check in with the team on question 1?

    Kind regards, Camilla
