I to come across this need, after playing around extensively, and return to reality :)

to make it easy for content editors to be able to link an image or text to other pages. I believe this will be most important feature at its current form since layer editor, timing functions all work nicely but without the ability to link to other pages easily for end-users, its limiting the deployment to live site.

Is there any near-term plans to add support for adding links to image/text?

Me too!  Please allow a 'Link to other pages' option.  

(At the risk of interfering...  You have given us the option to add a Caption or a picture.  Could there be a third type which is a link?  User can drag out the clickable area, so it can sit over an image or caption.)

Brandon - you can use the html to enter a link and it content midwhile. But I join the request of the layer link as well.
