Yeah you are right the people behind the Merchello project has made a starter kit site, but you should be aware, that it´s not package that you can install in the traditional way that you install other Umbraco packages to your installation.
The Merchello starter kit example site is a little website project that should fire right up in IIS Express.
Umbraco admin users:
Username: admin Password: 1234
So what you could do was setting up two sites, one for your version of your shop, where you have installed Merchello 1.4.1, and another installation where you setup the starter kit site where you can learn and copy from. Or maybe you could try remove the core Merchello package when you have setup the example site, and then install the version 1.4.1 into the example site.
I also have several example projects here: https://github.com/dfberry/Merchello-Example-Projects. Inside the src you will see the 4 projects I've written so far: product page, product list page, basket and checkout.

I am confused. Where do I get the example site or the Startr kit for Merchello?
I see it is not part of the package.I have v.1.4.1.
I guess my follow up would be. I saw the Merchello example site on the our.umbraco.org page, but does that work with the v.1.4.1?
