    Merchello vs Tea Commerce

For a new Shop, what are the pros and cons with Merchello vs TeaCommerce (excluding Price).

From what I understand, Merchello has no plans to include Product Structures which makes it somewhat harder to construct a shop with Products containing several Products.

What else is there? Or should I even go with NopCommerce perhaps?

Support could be a vital issue, this devs seems not too active in these forums so question is if there are any paid support tickets for this?

HI Marcus - I think I may be misunderstanding what you mean by Product Structures. Are you referring to a "kit" type mechanic?

From what I understand, Merchello has no plans to include Product Structures which makes it somewhat harder to construct a shop with Products containing several Products.

The two of us that are working on the project do try to be active in the forums - generally responding everyday to questions? Merchello also is offering paid support to assist in financing the project.

The project is open source and to a large extent relies on the community providing feedback as to issues and features.

    Hi Rusty.

Basically I am thinking of Products composed of several Products so yes.
For instance. The classic PC configuration is a good example.

    PC
      -Harddrive
      -Monitor
      -Keyboard

    etc

    What are the support plans?
I do like this Product but even if it is free I would still like some assurance that it is around so any plan that allows for "pro" support is nice.

As per the Question, it would be nice to hear from People with experience from both platforms.

Hi Marcus, I'm considering something similar (collection of products).

Merchello allows for the creation of single products, but these products can then be attached to content nodes.

So what you might do, is create a Product Collection Umbraco document type that has a collection of Merchello products. You can then make the Add To Basket button for such a page add all the products in the collection to the basket.

    Hi Marcus,

I have built multiple webshops in TeaCommerce as well as Merchello.

Merchello still have some rough edges, but generally it is a good platform for my projects. I like the fact it is completely open source, which allows me quickly fix an issue without waiting for a new release.

It is my impression that Merchello is maturing all the time and I am going to use Merchello for my next projects as well.

Thank you both for your answers. I will investigate the collection concept.

I have been looking into NopCommerce as well but I feel more comfortable using Umbraco for several reasons.

    Hi Marcus,

I have worked with both, not enough unfortunately but I have some basic understanding of the two solutions.

TC (I have not touched the 3.x release) seems overall more feauture full, it already has built-in what you seek (something like product structures), the JS API is a great addition for quick implementation but it gave me a few issues because I was trying to achieve a second storefront with the same products which was not possible at the time.

Merchello is a great platform that I'm getting familiar with, it lacks some features but it's getting there really fast and it feels like it's going to be undoubtly the best commerce solution for umbraco so I'm personally sticking with it.

I should note that if you need anything not included in the demo installations you should be prepared to write some code. I had to implement an OrderCalculator for TC which was relatively easy to do. And I'm currently coding for Merchello a shop that is based on Bazaar which is an amazing (and rather big) example of its potential but very familiar to MVC coders.
