    Duplication of Month Folder

    Hi

Just started to get duplicate month names with my date folders.

    I have set the package up;

    yyyy

    --mmmm

and this week two "September" folders have appeared in the UI

    2009

    --August

    --September

    --September

When I click on the second folder the tree jumps back to the first folder.

Any pointers on what to try to fix this?

    Thanks

    Evan

Are there items under the second september folder? You may have to delete this node via the DB if right click also doesn't work.

This folder structure should not be possible in Umbraco, the second folder should have been named "September (1)" automatically. This applies to node creation via the admin interface or the API.

I can't imagine a scenario where this would be possible. Any ideas how this happened? Do you have multiple editors working within Umbraco?

I'll try some scenarios tonight with multiple users creating draft versions incase this is the root cause.

    HI Chris

The nodes were created by an editor with restricted permisions.  I have managed to delete both September nodes and as admin I have started adding content to that area and only one September folder has appeared this time.

The extra node was wierd, you could click on it or expand it but the tree would jump back to the first instance of the September folder.  The items under both nodes were an exact mirror of each other.

I made some changes to permissions yesterday and I havn't been able to replicate the problem.

    Cheers

    Evan

Very odd. Like I said, it's a situation that's just not supposed to be possible!

Thanks for the feedback, and if it happens again hopefully we'll be able to diagnose it then.

    Hi,

I am experiencing this same issue, is there any solution to it yet? Only one user is using Umbraco and Autofolders has been working fine but then suddenly it has created a duplicate folder but as mentioned above you click on the duplicate folder or any of the items in it and it immediately jumps to the folder above.

I assume from the lack of responses that no-one has a solution for this problem. In which case I would at least like to be able to delete the duplicate folder in the Content tree but I am worried that deleting one of them will delete both of them and they contain a lot of content. What is going to be the best way to do this so that I can easily restore it if it all gets deleted? I cannot risk losing all the data on this site which is now live.

I haven't had this problem again but I can confirm that deleting one folder did delete both for me.

Hi Evan, thanks for the response, I have found that out myself now, it also seems to put duplicate folders in the recycle bin so that when you try and restore it then you get the duplicate folders back, I somehow managed to get rid of it I think by deleting one of the folders then before reloading the nodes saving and publishing the duplicate one that was still visible (or something like that). The problem is it has happened again already so i now have another duplicate folder. I think this means we are going to have to drop Autofolders altogether because it is just not reliable enough and our customer is complaining about it which is a shame because it would be a good solution for this website and some others that we have got in the pipeline.

    Hi,

Sorry you're having trouble with this package, I just don't have the time just now to help debug this issue.

The source is available and if you manage to find a solution I'll make sure it gets released with appropriate credits.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Ok Chris, thanks for the response, unfortunately I haven't got the time to debug the issue either at the moment. Let's hope someone finds the time soon because it has the potential to be a great package. Let me know if you do get to the bottom of it and I will do the same.

Anyone found a solution for this? Several others (including me) is dealing with this issue, but no one seems to have clue of what is happening.

To me, this issue is pretty much rendering the package unusable. How can this be included in the Blog that is installed with the Blog starter kit?

Sorry for the shortness, but I'm getting pretty frustrated here.

    Hi Dan,

This is a separate package and not installed with or related to the Blog package. Can you clarify what package you are having problems with?

    Cheers

    Chris

Just noticed that. I ended up in this thread on a search on the subject. Sorry for that.

It's the Starterkit Blog I'm having problems with. I'll start it in another thread where it belongs.

I have a problem too with it duplicating folders..

I want to have the structure like this: Events > Year > Month > Event ... it seemed to work fine, when a was testing with the admin user, but when other users create events, it creates more folders:

First the admin user had created the event: 2 x 18 års fødselsdag, but after another user (User 1) modified the event, it moved it to a subfolder..
Event (1) was created by admin, which is on the right level..
A third user (User 2) created an event, which is placed in it own folder..
I like the way to structure the event, or news item as well, but right now it mess it up..
If there isn't a solution for this, I will rather create the events just one level below the events top level... or still use my DateFolder doctype, but move the events manually into folders.

Has anyone a solution on this problem?

    Hi Bjarne,

I am also having the same issue as the one you specified. I have created a event and the folder structure is created fine and when i edit the event it is moved to the subfolder.

Did you find any solution on how to restrict the creation of duplicate folders while updating the event. Can you please provide me the soultion.

    Thanks

    Bobby

    Hi Bobby

No, I didn't find a solution on this.. actually I also think it puts the event in a folder of the created date.. but I want to sort the event in folders of the start date.. so I just used the DateFolder doctype manually.. so the events could be sorted into folders, but it will also work without the subfolders structure.

This was a better solution when I didn't find a solution. And if an event has start date in April and the event is created in January I didn't want it to sort the event in a January folder but in April.

    Bjarne
