If you are using Umbraco 7.3 then this does not apply, if using earlier please read. Please not this is not me slating the package in any way, it is just me sharing the information.
This is more of an observation for other people that come across this. Do not install the latest version of this package (Version 1.5) against Umbraco 7.2.8 and probably earlier if you are still using MVC 4.
The previous version (which can be installed via nuget using this line:
Install-Package Skybrud.Umbraco.GridData -Version 1.1.0) works wonders.
Version 1.5 requires MVC 5 so if you've been able to upgrade your MVC version in earlier version of Umbraco then it will probably work but I've had no luck using MVC 5 in Umbraco 7.2.8.
I'm aware of the issue, but haven't yet found the exact reason as to why this isn't working.
The plan was to release 1.5.0 build against MVC 5, but still supporting Umbraco 7.2.x and MVC 4. I did some testing with various versions of Umbraco 7.2.x to make sure that this was actually working, and I didn't experience any issues. So my conclusion was that it worked fine - or at least under the scenarios that I have tested.
After the release, one of my colleagues tried installing the new release in one of our 7.2.5 installations, where it didn't work. But when I tested again by installing a fresh Umbraco 7.2.5 installation, it worked fine.
Heather also reported a similar issue on GitHub, so from her description, the issue isn't limited to existing installations being upgraded.
If I can find the time, I will do some more testing over the weekend and hopefully find what is causing the issue.
