I'm wondering, if ImageGen doesn't use the cached images and generates them each and every time, and therefore gets slower?. And what could be the solution to this?
I've just tried your links and they seem very responsive. ImageGen will always check the disk cache first so it shouldn't get slower over time, unless you have a folder with huge amount of images in it (which will also make a very large cached folder). This might be the case iwth your PIM folder of images. How many images are in that folder?
Hmmm. That shouldn't cause any significant slowdow.
If you'd be willing to test something that might make a difference for you, could you contact me through my site and let me know your email address? It isn't released yet but might well address your issue. http://www.percipientstudios.com/about/contact.aspx
ImageGen and caching
Hi,
This question is sort of connected to this question: http://our.umbraco.org/forum/core/general/40756-Weird-caching-problems-with-images
So, I'm working on this website which fetches quite a few images with ImageGen.
However, the site tends to get slower and slower over time. I've noticed, that this one:
http://en.r82.testweb.designit.com/ImageGen.ashx?image=/pimmedia/image/Crocodile_Hand%20brakes_86834_48281.jpg&width=236&height=236
... loads slower, than this one:
http://en.r82.testweb.designit.com/pimmedia/image/Crocodile_Hand%20brakes_86834_48281.jpg
I'm wondering, if ImageGen doesn't use the cached images and generates them each and every time, and therefore gets slower?. And what could be the solution to this?
Br,
Dan
Update:
I tried to remove ImageGen on my menu item images, and that seems to improve it quite a lot. Instead I now resize the images with css instead..
But it seems kinda a weird though..

The cached folder contains a lot of images.
I just tried out something:
If you check this page: http://r82.testweb.designit.com/products/accessories-/vests-and-belts/c-23/c-75/p-204/?sku=48571 - it's quite slow.
This page has a lot of images, espcially under the "Measurements" section.
The way I show the images is:
If I show the images without using ImageGen it loads a lot faster. But, then I get a laggy transition on my slideToggle because of the big images. :/
Thanks, Dan.
When you say 'a lot of images' in the cached folder, how many-ish are we talking about? Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands?
cheers,
doug.
Somewhere between 500-1000 images.
Hmmm. That shouldn't cause any significant slowdow.
