How do I upgrade nForum from v1.0 to v1.2

    Hi Lee.

I've been using nForum for a some time. Unfortunately I'm having issues with the frontpage of the forum just like others have described it in earlier posts. Therefore I'd  like to see if an upgrade from version 1.0 to version 1.2 could solve the problem - or better yet version 1.3 if it's ready-to-go. After searching through all posts and your website BlogFodder I'm still clueless when it comes to the right way of upgrading the package without breaking anything.

I really hope that it will be possible to upgrade and that you will help me out as the forum in question is "unavailable" at the moment - if you know what I mean. I'd appreciate any guidance.

I'm running an Umbraco v4.7.0 with nForum v1.0 (as I mentioned).

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,
    Søren

Blimey... Its been so long since I have tinkered with nforum, I honestly can't remember exactly what changed between the versions.  Looking back I should have just launched with v1.2 and not been so impatient.

But if I was in the same predicament, I would do the following (create a backup of the entire site first):

    1. Install v1.2 on a clean site and create a few topics and posts
    2. Compare all the properties in the doctypes to the old versions in your current site, then add any missing properties to the old site
    3. Do the same for the member properties
    4. Once I'm sure all the properties have been added to the old version
    5. I'd then check in the content section on the properties tabs, as some of the new fields require default values (You could see this on the new site in the topics and posts you created)
    6. Overwrite the nforum files on the old site with the new ones
    7. I'd then fire up the site and run in debug with visual studio to catch any hiccups (You might have missed some required default values)
    Hope that helps?
