Catergories, Topics and comments not updating in the front end.

    Hi All.

I have a strange one - I installed nForum into a site I am currently building and did some quick tests (created catergories etc) and everything was fine.  I've since done some styling changes to the template - nothing major and have also been developing other areas of the site, and now when I create topics or comment posts from the forum front end they are created in the CMS backend successfully and everything looks ok, however they are not being pulled through into the forum front end?

Furthermore, if I actually re-save and publish an already existing catergory from the CMS that does show through the front end currently  - once re-saved and published it actually removes it from the front end?

Anyone seen this strange behaviour before?

As I said I I have only made minor tweaks to the forum masterpage - also I have moved the forum to level 3 in my site and it is behind a protected parent node now as well.

As always any help would be gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave.

    Hi Dave

Did you get anywhere with this? I have a problem where when I edit categories in the back end the changes to not filter through to the front end. I ahve had some success byt deleting some of the ExamineIndexes but this can't be the solution everytime you want to make a change in the back end can it?

    Hi Alex.

I did but I don't know if it's a solid solution to the original issue.  What I did was to completely remove/delete my forum from behind the protected parent node and from Level 3 of my site and created a new one at level 1 of my site and simply added the same role protection access at this level.  As I say not sure this was the exact cause of my original issue however it has resolved it.

I did actually create quite a few new ExaminIndexes prior to the original forum stopping working, so whether this was the original route cause that the delete/recreate resolved I am not entirely sure but it is now working?  I have to doctor some of my ExamineIndexes further so I'll let you know if this causes any further issues etc.

Have you tested moving a media item from folder to folder following an nForum install?  I created a seperate issue in the package forum relating to this but not had any response.  Basically I have found following any nForum install I get an error when trying to move or delete an item in the media section and wondered if you get the same?  Not had chance to delve into the source yet to try and resolve but think it is caused by the "DocumentAfterMove" method in the nForumEvents class?

Any further questions or ideas let me know and we can hopefully find a solid answer to all.

    Kind regards,

    Dave.

    Hi Dave

Thanks for getting back to me after I rudely reawakened this beast!

It certainly has something to do with moving the Forum around and the Indexes. We had a similar issue a few weeks ago while we were installing it which we solved by stopping the website and app pool, deleting the ExamineIndexes in Temp but yesterday this didn't work.

I thought about it a little more and remembered I had moved the Forum node to a different level so moved it back, did the above but no joy.

So today I have completely deleted the Forum node and created a new one, created a new category and everything seems great...

I don't know what will happen if we start adding more categories but for now I'm going to leave it as it is in our test environment while we test it and see what happens.

    I will report back....

    Alex

(If I haven't reported back in the next couple of weeks, someone please give me a nudge, nothing worse than someone syaing that and then never doing it! )
