well, we allready have a working IS system, that uses native SQL (mssql) authentications... that are logins in security folder, right by the databases, not IN the database... we would use this for members (not backend users), so that they can use the same usernames and passwords, as the data would be the same too...

You should be able to define your own membership provider so there really should not be any restrictions as far as I know. But some of the more skilled .Net developers in here probably have more input.
