We are looking to use uCommerce for a project and the base feature set appears to meet most of the the requirements which we have, apart from a couple of quite important omissions.
There is not support for discounts, i.e. voucher codes, Buy one get one free, purchase X amount and receive X product for free/discounted. Are there any plans for this in future? I have seen mentioned about the Marketing Foundation, is this functionality going to be included?
We will need to be extracting a loading the order and product information on a regular basis, as the actual order fulfillment and product pricing, etc. will be done using a separate system. Obviously there is the ability to do this using the API or direct to the SQL database, but are there any features, either existing or upcoming which would provide this out-of-the-box?
We are working actively on the Marketing Foundation and it will include voucher functionality as well as the more common "buy x get y" and amount off type discounts. The Marketing Foundation will of course be fully extendable so you can plug in your own discount types if you're not happy with the ones we ship out of the box. The upgrade will be free for existing customers. We're working with a release timeframe of the beginning of 2011 for Marketing Foundation.
With regards to integration you might be interested in the fact that at the moment we're prototyping a new product called uConnector which in the future will handle integration scenarios. We have a running prototype and will be including pieces of uConnector in a an upcoming uCommerce release (though only to power import/export functionality). Let me know if you'd be interested in working with us testing a prerelease of uConnector.
I look forward to seeing more on the Marketing Foundation, but for the moment I take it that the best way to implement similar functionality would be to develop a pipeline task and extend uCommerce Admin to include some user controls for configuration?
I would be really interested in working with you on testing the uConnector. Please feel free to contact me about this.
Pipelines and extending admin is absolutely the way to go if you need vouchers straight away. In fact multiple uCommerce partners have done something similar for both vouchers and gift cards. One such solution uses a "Voucher" product definition adding properties like "voucher code" and "amount" thus enabling them to use the existing uCommerce product editing UIs for managing vouchers. It basically saves you some code so it might be something you'd be interested in leveraging as well.
If you shoot me an e-mail with your contact details at [email protected] I'll make sure and pass it along to Lasse who's in charge of uConnector.
