uCommerce Quick overview ... and what's next ?

I just tryed out your uCommerce plugin, from an empty umbraco, and the samples.

Looks ok... If we assume that we need to develop everything, but it could be great if the sample product was a bit finalized, it looks bad, image links doesn't work, checkout is missing labels and the feedback to the client lacks...

Anyway, as the use of the sample is only informative, (we are not doing xslt here), and we want to integrate some solution in our umbraco framework that works with applications and widgets, I imagine that we can customize everything through the uCommerce API.

What about search and facetting ? Is There anything on the bench ? I think it's a must have in a modern e-commerce solution. The sample doesn't even provide a search functionality, so it stays a big question mark ?

From the backend, I tested 5 minutes, and encountered several page not found.

I'm looking about that 2.5 version ? It says that oGone will be supported, that's what we would like in Belgium, and would like to know what will be the new features and the release date of it.

    Thanks for the feedback:-)

    Hi Laurent,

We're aware that the sample site leaves a lot to be desired and have actually completed work on a new XSLT based site based on this on. However, I'm not sure we'll invest in actually creating the install for the site with Umbraco 5 coming ever closer and XSLT support dropped completely.

There's no question that we'll have to a prettier version of the site in pure Razor and .NET. This is actually where our strength lies so I'm quite looking forward to it.

I agree search is an important aspect of any modern e-commerce solution and it is something we're looking into adding in an upcoming release. At the moment LINQ to uCommerce is the way to go for searcing. Querying Products by Custom Properties in uCommerce should give you an idea of what that will look like.

Chalkboards UK gives you a pretty good idea of where you can take it too.

At the moment the Umbraco 5 integration takes absolute priority along with our new product uConnector for integration scenarios.

If you're experiencing errors in the backend I'd very much like to hear specifics. We've got a lot (!) of sites in production and I haven't heard anything from any of the live installs regarding this. Any repro steps would be much appreciated.

We're preparing the prerelease version of uCommerce 2.5 for the first test partner. Please shoot me an e-mail at ssl AT ucommerce DOT dk if you'd like to be included.

That sounds great... But I'm not happy with Umbraco 5 yet... Just tryed the latest nightly yesterday... I didn't got my list of books... I read the razor script and the first thing I read, we can only query from the root. So 75% done  before launch, I guess that the 25% remaining is the best of it, and that sounds huge to make something like a beta product. Sure I would like to see more about it once that Jupiter is workable. I saw you had a agreement with SpinDoctor, do they plan to integrate their module at the same time, so both products can be launched at the same time  ?

    Hi Laurent,

I can't speak on behalf of Spindoctor. What I can say that is that we will carry on supporting both 4 and 5 for the foreseeable future. The new integration makes this pretty simple for us so new features will be available for both versions as well.
