Using tags or key words in product description

    Hi,

We have a site in which the products are technical documents produced over several years. The normal search mechanisms are date and author which we can manage via the category/catalogue structures. They are also accessible by keywords of which there are lots and would be better suited to being viewed as tags. The enum datatype is part way there but only allows selection of one enum whereas we want to add several to each product.

Has anybody integrated tags into their product data as a searchable criteria and have any pointers on how to approach it?

    Thanks in advance and regards.

    Roger

You could use categories for that purpose. Essentially each category would be a tag. This would enable you to do a tag cloud view, search by tag, and tag based browsing.

    Hi Søren,

You are right and I'll mark it as solved for the suggestion. We have actually taken a slightly different approach.

I have added a block of 'Keywords: xxx, yyy' into the descriptions and will use the 'simple search' to find them. We have already overdosed on categories as we have added authors as categories (about 1,000 of them). I couldn't face adding even more for keywords.

I have been trying to contact the author of the simple search without much success, do you know if he is still active? I was hoping to use the source code to make some changes to the standard version.

    Regards

    Roger

Did you try to reach René Pjenggaard via Twitter?

I an hook you up with an e-mail for him if that didn't work.

Yes we did but we've had no reply. If you have an enail address that would be helpful - thank you.
