    Providing Secure Downloads with uCommerce

    Hi,

I am looking for some advice about the best approach to offering secure downloads on purchase with uCommerce.

Amongst other physical goods, we are looking to sell downloadable PDF reports.  We would like the user to be able to re-download reports they have purchased by logging into a members area.

I have an idea how this might be achieved but I'd like to get an expert opinion, uCommerce seems to be a great package and i'd hate to not use it to its full potential.

Does anyone have advice on the best way to do this?  Are there any features included specifically for this purpose?

    Hi,

Assuming you will be using the media section or Umbraco documents to upload the pdf's you might want to checkout the Mediaprotect package I wrote.Media protect prevents protected documents being downloaded directly.

Out of the box it allows you to protect media in the media section of Umbraco but it comes with an API also. so what you can do (this is what others did) is to add the member to either the group that is allowed to download the pdf or add the member to the allowed members list when they purchased the pdf. I assume there is an event raised in Ucommerce when the member purchased something?

    Cheers,

    Richard

I was going to suggest exactly what Richard is saying. Media protect will work nicely: You can let uCommerce handle capturing the order for you and leave fulfillment of media downloads to media protect.

    Hi,

Apologies for the delayed response, had to leave this project for a week or so whilst I cleared some other deadlines.

Thanks very much for the input guys, it looks like it does exactly what I want.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Thanks Søren and please let me know when you need more info Chris. The package works on localhost without a license.

    Cheers,

    Richard
